Stick 269 - Feelings Gauge

Feelings Gauge

How do we measure, how do we know
that the feelings of others
that the feelings we are observing
is at its peak, its ebb or its flow

Is sadness measured
by the depth of the pain chisselled frown of a brow
by the slow corner tear as it leads away from what the eye has seen
by the begging hunched over hold-me-now-please-shoulders
by the retching and physical distress as tears stream down the cliff face of a human mountain
by the paleness on the face of an otherwise rosy cheek

Is anger measured
by the muscle twitching on the side of a clenched human jaw
by the pumping of a fist as it prepares to deliver a voltage not seen before
by the rage in eyes that could be kind and now not focused is totally blind
by the sweat that steams on the red of the hot of the devils taunting and trot
by the tension emitted from the body of the raging betrayal

Is loneliness measured
by the detail of rituals designed to distract from the missing part
by the fetal position where the lonely hugs the alone
by the withdrawel in the eyes of the lonely as they struggle to engage
by the piano notes that paint a portrait of sculpting with wet wet clay
by the human haunted by memories of what led to what is now the mainstay
