Peekaboo
I hide behind my hands and peek between my fingers
"Peekaboo", I giggle-say and my heart swells with joy as I see
my beautiful baby bubble-laugh, with little head thrown backwards and bright eyes twinkling, excitedly anticipating the next Peekaboo.
I remember it many years later and attempt to play the adult version...
I cover my face behind my hands, but do not seek to play
my fingers clasped so tightly, not wanting to sneak a peek
I wait and wait for your surprise
I wait and wait for you to realise
I wait and wait for you to say boo
My peek came too late,
now all I have is an empty slate...
